Every dog has a name. But how do you teach it to understand what its name is?

Clicker Method

Throughout the entire tricks section, I use the clicker method for training dogs. The clicker method, in my opinion, is the best method available to use, because it enables the dog to know exactly what it is being treated for. Also, the clicker method lets children and multiple people train the animal, making it incredibly "user friendly." For more on this, please see THE CLICKER METHOD.

What You'll Need

  • Treats

The Need To Know

From now on, instead of me saying “Your dog’s name,” we will use the name, “Bailey.” In order to teach Bailey her name, you need to have your clicker and treats handy. As soon as Bailey makes eye contact with you, click and treat. Repeat this several times until you think Bailey can move on to the next step. which is having him/her associate the word with her action. Say "Bailey!" when she looks at you. Repeat this, also, several times. Don't get discouraged. This will take several 5-minute training sessions in order for Bailey to realize what her name is.
